Is It Time To Decorate The Nursery For The New Arrival?   by Sherry Belmonte

Are you anxiously awaiting your new arrival? There’s plenty to do and organize and get ready for. If decorating your nursery is on your list and you’d like to simplify the task, consider using wallpaper border. There are multiple ways to use it in the room and great reasons to consider this option. Take a look.

Let’s start with the top with the border and work our way down. Edging the top of the wall, butting up to the ceiling line gives accent to the room but leaves the main focus down lower. The main visual in the room will be the bedding, wall hangings and furnishings.

A very unique placement of the wallpaper border is to trim all the way around a closet door. It’s different and decorates an entire wall while still leaving the rest of the room walls available for other wall hangings or decals or murals. When using this option be careful when measuring the length needed. You will need to select the paper choice first to know the width of the border. This is very important. Second, measure the height of the door frame and account for both sides. (ie – if the height is 6′- you will need 12′ just for the height). Third, when you measure the width of the door frame across the top, make sure you add the width of the border itself to both sides of the of the door frame. (ie – if the border is 5″ wide, and the width of the closet opening is 8′, then you will need 8′ PLUS 10″ for the width – almost 9′) All in all, you would need 21′ in this example.

A common location to hang the wallpaper border is about 40″ from the floor, dividing the room in half. When the bottom of the walls are a different color than the top, this creates a clean finished look. It is also a warm, cozy feel.

The choices of patterns for your nursery is huge with flowers, cars and trucks, baby zoo animals, Noah’s ark, dancing shoes, sports, Disney characters or clouds.

Wallpaper border is easy to use, environmental friendly and economical.

Borders these days are either pre-pasted, requiring a dip in warm water to activate the glue or they are actually self-sticking like a wall sticker. This just requires a quick run over the wall with a damp cloth to remove and dust particles stuck to the wall.

Borders are breathable so do not trap moisture behind them in humid areas and thus no mold problems.

Most borders are also 100% removable with no damage to existing walls, no special chemicals to spray on for removal and no repairs to damaged, painted walls. Since they are so easy to remove they are a great decorating option as those babies grow up and you want to redecorate out of the baby stage.

Be creative. The sky is the limit. Most of all, love that new baby!
