A long continuous length of interlocked fibers is referred as a yarn. It is suitable to be used in production of textiles, knitting, weaving, and embroidery also for industrial purposes. A type of yarn is thread that is sewed either by machine or hand. The embroidery thread is designed by machines.
The quantity of yarn is measured by weight in ounces or grams. Its common sizes include the weight from 25g to 100g. There are varieties of yarn including Acetate yarn, Acrylic Yarn, Lycra yarn, Jute yarn, Bamboo yarn, Cotton yarn and the list doesn’t ends here.
There are various processes involved for various filaments or fiber. A cotton, linen or wool is made into yarn by the process of carding, combining, drawing and finally spinning. Whereas the fiber like nylon, rayon, silk etc can be converted directly into a yarn. Usually to give strength to any yarn, they are twisted which in turn also makes it smooth. By twisting together yarns of different diameter, a variety of complex yarns like boucle and ratine are prepared.
The mixing of yarn means the intermingling of varied classes of same grade fibers. Whereas its blending refers to the intermingling of different kinds and different grades of fibers. There are two qualities of yarn namely Carded and Combed.
The Carded yarn basically is made up of different fiber length that reduces its strength and due to the hairiness in it; the fabric made out of it will be more uneven. On the contrary, the Combed yarn is comparatively of superior quality than the Carded yarn. Its fibers are of different lengths due to which it carries more strength.
The process whereby colors are added to any textile, fabric, yarns is what is called as Dyeing. It is done in using special solutions and particularly the chemical materials. Even dyes can be classified as natural and man-made. Dyes can moreover be easily removed too. The process of removing the unwanted color is known as bleaching. It is a method of destroying the dye with powerful reducing agents.
